dreamdesignsilchar.comDream Design Silchar is an interior design studio and civil contractor based in Meherpur, Silchar, founded in 2007 by Mr. Dilip Das. Unlike most interior firms in the Barak Valley, it handles both sides of a home project: civil construction, waterproofing, plumbing and electrical work, and steel fabrication, alongside modular kitchens, false ceilings, custom furniture, and painting. The firm had over 300 completed projects and a long local reputation, but its existing website did not reflect either. We were brought in to rebuild the site from the ground up, starting with local keyword research and a competitor review of Silchar interior and construction firms, then a written design system, and finally a Next.js build. The whole project was shaped by one question: will a homeowner in Silchar, on a mid-range Android phone over patchy 4G, start a WhatsApp conversation?
Client Results
Every Page Now Indexable on Its Own
Fixed a canonical tag bug that pointed all pages at the homepage. Each of the 16 routes now declares its own canonical URL, so service pages can rank for their own keywords.
From 1 Service List to 10 Service Pages
Replaced a hover-only dropdown with a crawlable /services hub and 9 dedicated local landing pages.
50KB Hero Image
The homepage hero background ships as a 50KB WebP, well under the 150KB budget set for mobile users on 4G.

Performance Overview

Core Web Vitals

An audit of the existing site found problems in four areas: (1) **Search visibility**: all services sat in a single list behind a hover-only dropdown with no link, which was invisible to search engines and unusable on touch screens. There were no dedicated pages to rank for searches like "modular kitchen Silchar" or "waterproofing Silchar." (2) **Portfolio SEO**: hundreds of project photos used filenames as alt text (e.g. `project-12.jpeg`) and had no titles or categories. The strongest proof of the firm's work carried no search value. (3) **Trust and consistency**: the header and footer linked to different portfolio URLs, the Instagram icon pointed nowhere, leads went to a Gmail address, and the page made award claims with no named issuing body. (4) **Mobile performance**: images were requested at desktop widths on phones, which is a real cost for an audience mostly on mid-range Android devices over 4G.
- 01

- 02
Give every major service its own page, targeting service + "Silchar" keywords, plus a /services hub linking to all of them.
- 03
Write a design system (DESIGN.md) that defines every colour, type size, radius, and spacing value before any UI is built.
- 04
Make WhatsApp the primary conversion path, with a contact form that sends a pre-filled WhatsApp message instead of an email.
- 05
Give every portfolio project a real name, category, and descriptive location-based alt text.
- 06
Add LocalBusiness structured data, a sitemap, robots.txt, Open Graph cards, and a correct canonical URL on every page.
We started with research, not code. Local keyword research and a review of competing interior and construction firms in Silchar showed that the firms ranking well had one dedicated page per service and put trust signals up front: years in business, completed projects, and clear delivery times. That shaped the site structure. Before building any UI, we wrote DESIGN.md, a design system for this client. It sets a cool grey-green and slate palette with a single terracotta accent (brick and clay being what the firm builds with), one type family, 4px corners on controls, and a strict rule that the accent appears on only one element per screen. It also records performance budgets for the real audience: explicit image sizes, a hero image under 150KB, and LCP under 2.5s on a simulated mid-range phone over slow 4G. The site is built on Next.js 16 (App Router), React 19, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS v4. It has 16 statically generated routes, including 9 dedicated service pages: interior design, modular kitchens, civil construction, waterproofing, painting, custom furniture, false ceiling and PVC panels, steel fabrication, and civil plumbing and electrical work. Each has its own title, description, and canonical URL. The portfolio lists named projects by Silchar locality (Meherpur, Tarapur, Rangirkhari, Ambicapatty, Udharbond and others), each with a category and descriptive alt text, plus a category filter. For local SEO, the site ships HomeAndConstructionBusiness JSON-LD with address, geo-coordinates, phone number, and opening hours, along with a generated sitemap, robots.txt, and Open Graph and Twitter cards. In a later technical pass, we found that the canonical URL had been set once in the root layout, which made every page on the site declare itself a copy of the homepage. That tells Google to ignore the service pages. We moved canonicals to each route, added missing metadata to the contact page, and turned the homepage into a server component so its content arrives in the initial HTML. We also fixed the WhatsApp message encoding so enquiries containing "&" or "#" are no longer cut off, and removed 15MB of unused media from the deployment.
Key Features
9 Dedicated Local Service Pages
Each service has its own route, title, description, and canonical URL, targeting the service + "Silchar" searches found in the keyword research, with a /services hub linking to all of them.
WhatsApp Enquiry Flow
The contact form collects name, phone, service, and project details and opens WhatsApp with a pre-filled, correctly encoded message. WhatsApp buttons also appear in the hero and closing sections.
Named, Searchable Portfolio
Every project has a title, category, and location-based alt text (e.g. "Modular kitchen installation, Gopinath Nagar, Silchar") instead of a filename, with a category filter.
LocalBusiness Structured Data
HomeAndConstructionBusiness JSON-LD with street address, postcode, geo-coordinates, phone number, opening hours, and social profile, plus a generated sitemap and robots.txt.
Written Design System
A DESIGN.md spec defining every colour token, type size, radius, motion rule, and performance budget, so the site stays consistent as it grows.

Target Areas
โWe have been doing interiors and civil work in Silchar since 2007, but our old website never showed that. Locallify rebuilt it properly. Now every service we offer, from modular kitchens to waterproofing and construction, has its own page, and our finished projects are shown with their names and locations. When a customer fills in the contact form, the details come straight to our WhatsApp, which is where we talk to customers anyway. The site is clean, loads fast on a phone, and finally looks like a firm that has been working for seventeen years.โ

Questions & Answers
Q1What was wrong with the canonical tags, and why did it matter?
The canonical URL was set to "/" in the site's root layout, and every page inherited it. Each service page was telling Google "I am a copy of the homepage," which asks search engines not to rank it on its own. We gave every route its own canonical URL and moved the homepage's canonical onto the homepage itself, so a new page can never inherit it by accident.
Q2Why does the contact form send a WhatsApp message instead of an email?
In Silchar, homeowners overwhelmingly reach contractors on WhatsApp. The form collects name, phone, service, and project details, then opens WhatsApp with the message already written, so the enquiry lands where the owner already answers customers. We also fixed the message encoding, so details containing "&" or "#" are no longer cut short.
Q3Why build a separate page for each service instead of one services page?
People search for a specific job, like "waterproofing Silchar" or "modular kitchen Silchar," not "home services." A dedicated page per service, with its own title, description, and project photos, gives each search a page that matches it exactly. The /services hub then links them together for visitors and crawlers.
